Ailanthus altissima, commonly known as the Tree of Heaven, is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to China and northeast Asia. It was introduced globally for ornamental use and erosion control but has since become naturalized—and often invasive—in many regions.

This tree is known for its rapid growth, high tolerance to pollution, and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it a common sight in urban environments and disturbed lands. Its large, compound leaves, smooth gray bark, and clusters of winged seeds (samaras) give it a tropical appearance, but it spreads aggressively by seed and root suckers.
